Understanding Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) History
Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (AGG) is an exhilarating discipline of gymnastics that showcases the beauty of stylized, natural total body movement. Unlike rhythmic gymnastics, AGG is performed with larger, more dynamic body movements and in larger groups, creating a stunning visual spectacle without the use of apparatus. Although AGG is a burgeoning sport in the USA, it has captured the hearts of audiences across Europe, especially in Finland.
The International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) was established in 2003. The IFAGG boasts members from around the globe, including Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, the Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, and Spain.
Aesthetic Group Gymnastics combines art, expression, and emotions into a thrilling high-level competitive sport.
General
AGG is all about harmonious, rhythmic, and dynamic movements performed with natural and effortless strength. The magic of AGG lies in the seamless flow from one movement to the next, as if each new movement is born from the previous one. Performers must execute all movements fluently, with impressive amplitude and varied dynamics and speed. The routines are a feast for the eyes, featuring versatile and varied body movements such as body waves and swings, balances and pivots, jumps and leaps, dance steps, and lifts. Physical qualities like flexibility, speed, strength, coordination, and graceful movement are essential. Teamwork and unity are at the heart of AGG. The choreography, rich with expressive interpretation of music through movements, tells a captivating story.
